Advisory Committee

The advisory committee of the 49th State Angel Fund reviews potential investment opportunities and makes recommendations to the Mayor and CFO. These individuals are:

Ms. Eleanor Andrews, The Andrews Group: Ms. Andrews is President and CEO of the approximately 20-year-old Andrews Group. She is also a civic entrepreneur who has helped develop neighborhood, health, housing and economic programs.

Mr. Tom McGrath, Frigid North Company: Owner of Frigid North Company since 1979 and former board director of international firm Edge Marketing and Procurement, Mr. McGrath is also a distinguished volunteer for Anchorage.

Dr. David McGuire, Alaska Orthopaedic Specialists: Dr. McGuire is an orthopaedic surgeon and entrepreneur who holds over 20 patents and owns a medical clinic.

Mr. Rick Nerland, Nerland Agency: Chairman of the Board of Nerland Agency Worldwide Partners, Mr. Nerland has led one of Alaska’s largest advertising and public relations agencies for over 20 years.

Mr. Ron Pollock, Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA): Prior to ACDA, Mr. Pollock's 30-year career included owning six companies involved in real estate. Today he is a board director at BidSync, an internet procurement company based in Utah.

Mr. Bill Popp, Anchorage Economic Development Corporation: Mr. Popp has over 35 years of Alaska public and private sector experience. He has marketed cities, advised mayors on resource development, held elected positions, and owned a small business.

Ms. Gail Schubert, Bering Straits Native Corporation: Prior to her promotion as President/CEO of Bering Straits in late 2010, Ms. Schubert practiced law in Anchorage after a successful career on Wall Street.

Lt. Gov Mead Treadwell, State of Alaska: In addition to his strong history of public service, Lt. Gov Treadwell has been a seed investor in, and director or officer of, several early-stage technology companies.

OTHER

Mr. Allan Johnston (Volunteer Program Advisor), The Entrepreneurs and Mentors Network:  Mr. Johnston's professional history includes angel investing, running Wedbush Morgan securities in Alaska and helping establish the state's longest-running business plan competition.

Mr. Steve Mercil (Program Consultant), Rain Source Capital: Mr. Mercil, whose early-stage finance experience includes board tenure with both the Angel Capital Association and the National Association of Seed and Venture Funds, is founder and CEO of RAIN Source Capital. His funds have invested over $150 million through their 450 members and member VCs.
